 Yes, there are good chances the 9.0 installer will work better, but no,
 we do not know for sure.
 
 Your bug report sounds like something goes wrong when drm/kms takes over
 the gpu, but this is hard to debug w/o the hardware at hands.
 
 You can test boot the installer w/o doing any changes to your installed
 system, so I guess maya assumed it would not be a big deal for you to check.
