 I don't really think so. It's always bug to call it with NULL dv, and
 we should not hide it. The ipmi code was calling the function from
 context where the pointer might be uninitialized.
 
 IMO it would be really good to change the match code to not use fake
 softc, and fake "ipmi0" as device name during match. But I don't have
 machine with ipmi in order to test such change.
