After exit from X, console output is lost. The screen remains the same as background for X. The system continues to run. I can still enter input to the tty I am logged into, although blindly. I can also ssh into the machine as expected. Rebooting seems to be only solution (or never exiting from X once it is started).

Using GENERIC prebuilt kernel. Framebuffer is nouveau. Xorg driver is also nouveau.

I can supply dmesg, Xorg.0.log, stdout/stderr of X (saved to file), etc, if requested.

I login as normal user, run startx, then exit from X.
