 I took a leaf out of the ARMADAXP (evbarm) and added
 
   options MVSATA_WITHOUTDMA
 
 to my amd64 kernel configuration. The panic is now worked-around, I just
 need to create more wd devices(!)
 
 Anyway, this suggests a software rather than hardware bug.
