 Just booted the already installed Ubuntu 14.04.1.
 
   for i in a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p; do smartctl -a /dev/sd$i | grep overall-health; done
 
 gets me
 
   SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED
 
 for all 16 disks, even though there is plenty of "Pre-fail" and "Old_age"
