 Isn't there a switch one can throw that runs the various rc.d scripts
 in parallel? Using that instead of trying to approximate it by
 backgrounding things seems like a better plan.
 
 (yes, we should fix daemons that don't rescan when interfaces appear,
 because they'll never work right on laptops. file PRs everyone...)
