 (1) dunno, I switched to NFS mounts quite a while ago because I needed 
 something that just works (tm) and luckily there was some nfs server
 to be found in the network. 
 
 (2) I am not as often as I used to be next to the machine physically
 and it no longer is accessible from the outside world. So it'll be
 a while (mid to end january) before I really can test this again.
