I've tried a variety of CVS binaries (5.1.2, 6.0_BETA2, pkgsrc) and I kept 
getting
the exact same problem.

But after switching "/tmp" from tmpfs to mfs I hadn't had a single case of the
CVS corruption described in this bug.
