 I could not yet spend the time to debug this, but I should pretty soon.
 
 IRT xorg.conf, with this working pre-expat-move X11R7, it only
 successfully starts so far if no xorg.conf is present, which seems like
 another bug.  If that same bug subsists, I'm not sure that I'll get
 very far with an xorg.conf, but it's worth trying.
 
 The symptom with an xorg.conf present is "no screen found" if I
 remember.
 
 But I'll also rebuild it with debugging symbols and try to run it
 through gdb if I can't get it to dump core at all.
