 Simply, typing startx (without an xorg.conf, as with one X11 wouldn't
 start anymore lately, probably an unrelated bug), but all I got was a
 blank screen with no windows, no mouse cursor either.  With or without
 an .xinitrc it was the same, like if it was simply freezing...  also, I
 couldn't anymore switch back to text mode (either by ctrl-alt-Fn or
 ctrl-alt-backspace) and had to power down the system.  Fortunately,
 when pressing the software power button the system could come down
 cleanly, though, so apart from video issues the system wasn't frozen.

 I'll try this today, thanks for the suggestion.
 
 I've been wondering if anything might try to dynamically load a module
 with expat dependency which would now be failing...  So a next step
 would be to try with a copy of the expat libraries
 under /use/X11R7/lib/, that'll be my second test.
