I cannot reproduce the issue with recent -current kernels, under i386.
I ran a couple of benchmarks that make heavy use of threads and did not
notice any breakage. The xend/xenbackendd daemons also ran fine, now that
they are properly linked against libpthread.

Now, consider this PR as closed.
