 I am writing to request that this PR is closed since the problem
 now appears to be fixed - the system has now been running for
 several days with no hint of problems.
 
 For some reason clearing the CMOS resolved the issue.  I have no
 idea what the offending setting was nor what was to blame (although
 Windows seemed to run happily enough).  Even if it was NetBSD to
 blame, without knowing the offending setting I doubt I could
 re-create the problem environment if I tried.
