>Description:
After installing NetBSD on a Mac Mini G4 1.2GHz, the system can
boot correctly iff I manually drop into the OF prompt first and
type "boot" from there.
The auto-boot functionality does not work correctly: it seems as
if the kernel starts but it fails to initialize the screen. The
screen remains blank and the system is unresponsive.
Defining the following in OF lets auto-boot work, but this workaround
should not be necessary (it's not for Linux):
boot-command=." hello" cr " screen" output boot
Please note that the fact that the screen remains blank may be
unrelated to this problem. It is possible that the problem happens
much earlier in the kernel boot process, but I can't debug this.
I'm attaching the kernel log below after the Fix section.
>How-To-Repeat:
1) Install NetBSD onto the hard disk of a Mac Mini G4.
2) Set the following OF properties (or similar):
boot-device=hd:,\ofwboot.xcf
boot-file=netbsd
3) Type 'reset-all' and drop into the OF prompt again.
4) Type 'boot' and see that the system boots fine.
5) Reboot and let auto-boot start NetBSD.
6) See a white screen and an unresponsive machine.
7) ... define the boot-command mentioned above and see how auto-boot
starts working.
