RE: misc/44719: RARPD ethers file format wrong for Linux

The following reply was made to PR misc/44719; it has been noted by GNATS.

 This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

 Content-Type: text/plain;
        charset="us-ascii"
 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

 I finally figured out the syntax after staring at it. The formatting had me
 very confused. I was using a direct connection like this:

 /etc/ethers

 Mac address   IP address

 which seems to work fine.

 The instructions have an intermediate link to the hosts file that doesn't
 seem necessary. The Hosts file is formatted:

 /etc/hosts

 IP address   host name

 And then the ethers file is

 /etc/ethers

 Mac address  host name

 I managed to get the two confused reading the info as displayed since it's a
 little inconsistent. I have tried it and it works both ways, either with the
 ip address in the ethers file or through the hosts file.

 Ok, I now get what you are asking to be fixed, but can you please quote the

 part of the page that you think is incorrect?

  Following the "Linux" link near the top seems to give correct information.
