    I tried to come up with something witty to say, but I couldn't come up
    with anything that didn't sound stupid, so, I'll say it straight.
    Close this one up, the machine installed (INSTALL used MP which caught
    me off guard), and it ran on the installed GENERIC kernel (MP, of

 we have to have GENERIC as MP now -- some new machines have the memory
 controller on the CPU and the system acts strange (hangs, interrupts
 lost, etc) if you don't spin up all CPUs.  so, we switched GENERIC to
 be MP by default, and added a GENERIC.UP for people who want it.
