 I never did get NetBSD 4 to run at all on the computer in question. But 
 I have not experienced problems like this with any other OS, including 
 NetBSD 3 and 5, as well as a couple of other BSDs and Linuxes. It is 
 currently running NetBSD 5 without issues.
