I can reproduce this on _some_ machines using an external USB DVD.
The problem began sometime between 5.99.13 and 5.99.17. On "newer" hosts
the bootstrap bootxx_cd9660 fails, on "older" hosts it works. This does
not seem ACPI related, but for me it only fails on hosts with ACPI v2 (it
does not change if ACPI is disabled or set to v1 mode). There is the simple
workaround is to use a 5.x or 5.99.y (y <= 13) disk to start the boot, but
stop at the boot command prompt - then switch disks (i.e. to -current) and
then type "boot<CR>".
In my case I'm using the same, not just identical external USB DVD
hardware, on many different hosts, so the problem is not HW as well as being
relatively recent in -current AND is likely dependant on some obscure BIOS
assumption made in the code.
