I agree that this check should have been added to postinstall. My
question now is whether it's worth adding after this long.  It would
only make a difference for people upgrading from 2.x, which is quite
a big upgrade.  As a sidenote, upgrades done via sysinst don't have
this problem, because they make new devices at the end of the upgrade.

Anyway, up to you: do you still want the check added?
