I have a couple of comments/questions:
1) Is there a particular reason you want to use perl 5.6.1 instead of
something a bit more modern? Do you get the same problem if you
try to install perl 5.8.8 or perl 5.10.0? (I do realize the
problem report is old, and probably neither of the two newer ones
were available at the time, but that was then and this is now :)
2) Is there a particular reason you can't use the pkgsrc package of
perl5 instead of building this "standalone" outside pkgsrc? Do you
get the same problem with building if you build the pkgsrc package?
My NetBSD/alpha 5.0 system has just completed a bulk pkgsrc build of
pkgsrc-2009Q1, and as a result a binary package of perl 5.10.0nb5 is
available from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/alpha/5.0_2009Q1/All/=
perl-5.10.0nb5.tgz
Best regards,
