   Thanks to you, David, and to all for the great work! That's it,
 then. There are no drive read or write errors here, even after
 another kernel build. The second drive (first interface on the
 second bus) also mounts fine.
 
   The patch problem was probably my error. I'll find more documentation
 and read it.
