>Environment:
netbsd 4 boots fine, problem started with netbsd 4.99.x, it's still there in
5.0 BETA and maybe 5.99.x (not tested yet)
>Description:
Download a NetBSD-5 BETA iso image, burn it to a CD and try to boot from it.

Then you'll see this ->

SCSI Controller is a Tekram DC-390U2W.

(dmesg output from an older NetBSD release:)
esiop0 at pci0 dev 12 function 0: Symbios Logic 53c895 (ultra2-wide scsi)
esiop0: using on-board RAM
esiop0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 17 (irq 11)cd0 at scsibus0 target 2
scsibus0 at esiop0: 16 targets, 8 luns per target
lun 0: <PIONEER, DVD-ROM DVD-305, 1.06> cdrom removable
cd0: sync (50.00ns offset 16), 8-bit (20.000MB/s) transfers
>How-To-Repeat:
Install a Tekram DC-390U2W SCSI controller and try to boot from CD, it'll fail
finding /sbin/init and abort.
>Fix:
No idea, I swapped the esiop card with an ahc-card and everything is fine now.

Installing an older 4.0 release and upgrading to 5.0 via build.sh also works
fine.
