deleting $DESTDIR would cure this problem and most like it.  it's
way less intrusive than deleting all obj.

thanks! thats exactly what I wanted to know.

would it make sense to *always* delete $DESTDIR after a re-cvs?

(you can close the PR any time you like, I don't see this as worth holding open)
