The attached patch fixes this problem by implementing a "synthetic"
sysmon event HW_LIMITS and processing the crit_max and crit_min checks
in a single event. Similarly, a USER_LIMITS event is created for the
equivalent user-specified limit checking.
This patch includes the changes previously reported for PR kern/39021
and therefore the HW_LIMITS and USER_LIMITS events include _four_
threshold values. In addition to a crit_max and crit_min, they have
warn_max and warn_min levels. And, since the previous patch also
provided for a BATT_USERWARN event for battery capacity, this newest
patch has a third synthetic event for BATT_LIMITS.
This has been tested on my quad-core amd64 system with no adverse
effects, with multiple sensors. (Currently running 4.99.67)
Still on the to-do list:
1. Reword the syslog messages in the etc/powerd/scripts - for example,
it is not necessarily correct to report that the temperature has risen
above the warn_max limit - it might have fallen into the warning range
from the critical range!
2. There's still no support for a hardware device to "consume" the user-
specified thresholds for its own use. I'm not sure if this would really
be useful, since it would probably be just as costly for the events
worker to ignore processing of "consumed" events as it is (currently) to
reprocess them (and hopefully coming up with the same results as the
hardware's results!)
