sparc
Architecture: sparc
Machine: sparc
>Description:
I have a SPARCstation IPX running NetBSD 3.0. Wanting to use it as a
router, I bought a used Sun Quad Fast Ethernet SBUS card on eBay,
checking the list of supported hardware at
http://www.netbsd.org/ports/sparc/hardware.html first to ensure that
it was supported by NetBSD. I thought it was, because the list said:
qfe; four 100 Mbps full-duplex "Happy Meal" ethernet interfaces - sbus card
(1.6)
However, after I installed the card, the machine paniced on boot:
hme0 at sbus0 slot 2 offset 0x8c00000 level 4 (ipl 5): Sun Happy Meal
Ethernet (SUNW,qfe)
hme0: Ethernet address 08:00:20:89:b3:b0
async mem arr: ser=0 sva=0xffe70000 aer=20<TIMEOUT> ava=0xfe02a00c
parity error register = 0
panic: memory error
halted
I now see that the entry for hme in the list of supported hardware
says that it is not supported on sun4c; apparently this also applies
to qfe, but there is no corresponding note on the entry for qfe, and
that was the entry I checked since it exactly matched the hardware I
was buying.
>How-To-Repeat:
>Fix:
In http://www.netbsd.org/ports/sparc/hardware.html, add the note "This
hardware is not supported on the sun4c platform" to the entry for qfe,
too.
