 Both 2.1 and 3.1.1 INSTALL kernels (and -current as originally reported)
 fail in the same way for me.  dmesg for 3.1.1 below.  Interestingly,
 though I'm not sure it's relevant here, the CPU is mis-ID'd as having a
 1M L2 cache (the prom reports 256K).
