 Switching the connection from USB directly to the printer to an 
 IEEE1284<->USB adapter:
 
 ulpt0 at uhub1 port 2 configuration 1 interface 0
 ulpt0: vendor 0x0557 product 0x2001, rev 1.00/1.50, addr 2, iclass 7/1
 ulpt0: using bi-directional mode
 
 
 Causes this particular problem to go away.  The symptom is now that data 
 is corrupted on the way to the printer, causing Postscript errors. 
 Changing to ulpn (non-resetting device) appears to have solved that 
 particular issue.  Not sure if these are all related or not, but wanted 
 to add this note to the PR for future generations.
