 I tested this with some compiles that were consistently an issue before
 (e.g. building a new kernel, compiling and testing Perl), and I no
 longer see this problem, so we should be good to close this.
 
 (Incidentally, Perl's test suite now returns 99.43% success, which is a
 lot higher than before.)
