 With Steve's patch, kern/34737 is reduced to kern/17398, which was offerred in 
 2002.  Why wasn't that committed four years ago?  It doesn't solve the 
 general problem of sectors bigger or smaller than 512 bytes, I grant you, but 
 it just seems too useful not to commit.
