 This problem seems to have something to do with vfork; not are the
 processes involved always those of a shell script run every few minutes
 from net-snmpd rather than the somewhat more active Postfix instance,
 but I can provoke the panic by running something simpler like "while
 pgrep -f smtp | wc -l; do :; done" (unfortunately, this works only if
 the host is live, so I'd prefer not to do this).
