Description:

There is a possible bug in kernel-level about sound. Surely it's related to
my sound card only (see below): trying to open a flash movie i have this
problem:

   1) Using flash plugins (version 7 for linux), downloaded from Macromedia
      web site, i can see all movies "audioless". If there is audio in the
      file FireFox "freeze" and i have a continue rusty;
   2) Using multimedia/flashplayer (swfplayer) i get the same error. This
      mean that could'nt be a FireFox (or its flash plugins) bug but a
      NetBSD-related problem.

I can't say if this problem start before of 3.0 changes because i have done
an upgrade from 2.1 stable to 3.0_BETA. Now i'm on latest CVS update
(Tue Dec 27 22:47:14 CET 2005) and the problem has not been fixed.

This is my sound card:
===]
auvia0 at pci0 dev 17 function 5: VIA Technologies VT8237 AC'97 Audio (rev 0x60)
audio0 at auvia0: full duplex, mmap, independent
[===

I though could be a kernel configuration problem and i've done a lot of tests
but, of course, without results.

Considerations:
Both kernel and pkgsrc tree has been updated several times during
the NetBSD kernel develop from 2.1 to 3.0_BETA and, finally, -current.
Then all discussed above could be a pkgsrc-related problem.
I have upgraded from pkgsrc 2005Q2 to 2005Q3 and from Q3 to current
RC6 and, weekly to -current. With 2005Q3 i did have not any problem but
i don't know when problem is started. Flash plugins is not very useful
but probably this is not a good reason for not fix this.

I hope you could excuse me for my bad english.. but better a bad grammar
english than an italian PR :-)

Good work,
Claudio M. Alessi
