I do use an ACPI based kernel. However the T41 uses a TI cardbus bridge:

The T43 uses:

cbb0 at pci4 dev 0 function 0: Ricoh 5C476 PCI-CardBus bridge (rev.  0x8d) (chipflags 2)

the T43 has one Cardbus/PCMCIA slot and one Express-Card slot. I don't
know how the latter is attached.
