 Could you modify sys/arch/sparc/dev/fd.c, function fdcresult() (starting
 around line 1054) and either increment the loop count from 10000 to
 say 1000000 or change the delay(1) near the end of the loop to a delay(100)?
 
 Would be interesting to know if this avoids the timeout.
