 For now I could observe the following:

 /etc/ppp/pppoe0.conf:
 myauthproto=pap
 myauthname=foo
 myauthsecret=bar
 query-dns=3

 If it matters: myauthname contains '/' and '@', myauthsecret is alphanumeric
 only.

 # ifconfig pppoe0 create
 # pppoectl -e sip1 pppoe0
 # pppoectl -f /etc/ppp/pppoe0.conf pppoe0

 pppoectl pppoe0 then shows me that myauthproto was set to "pap" but
 myauthname is still "".

 I noticed this when I switched from a 2.0.2_STABLE to 3.0_BETA while keeping
 all configs as they were.

 Doing a ktrace will take some time since the system is serving and the
 running kernel is compiled without KTRACE. I'll see when I can get to it.

 Regards
