 I think this is gone overboard. A PR, even if marked as change request,
 is not a good forum for discussions. It seems you disagree with some
 policies - please bring that topic up on a mailing list.
 
 You hinted at some failures, which may be worth a real PR. Please file
 a separate one for each of them, actually describing your failure mode
 and setup - not hiding them inside lots of random stuff.
 
 This PR should be closed.
