 It seems that this problem has been addressed already in November 2004
 in revision 1.63 of /etc/daily. My bad in confusing two current systems
 (one from October with the problem, and a current one where I simply
 tested the 'echo "9876543210" | awk' part of the problem, and not actually
 checking /etc/daily contents).
 
 Against that background, this PR can be closed (and possibly another one 
 opened for dealing with awk issues, if somebody thinks so).
