 Prior to the patch, I got 8 panics out of 8 'shutdown -r' with the new
 kernels I tried. After patching, I have not been able to make the system
 panic on reboots, yet.
 
 So, I would call your patch a success, at least for me. Thanks for
 the quick relief!
 
 I'll do some further testing next week, when I'll also try your patch in 
 two other wm-based systems, that act as gateways (and have a more active 
 role in the network).
