System: NetBSD cobalt 2.0H NetBSD 2.0H (COBALT-$Revision: 1.4 $) #697: Thu Sep 23 04:07:19 PDT 2004 root@svcs:/sys/arch/i386/compile/COBALT i386
Architecture: i386
Machine: i386
>Description:
On a particular file, the `standard' "tar" fails with the messages:

tar: End of archive volume 1 reached
tar: Unexpected EOF on archive file

GNU "tar" (i.e. "gtar") just works.

>How-To-Repeat:
Try to extract the distribution file for the "fastcap" package from
	pkgsrc, i.e. "fastcap-2.0-18Sep92.tgz".

NOTE: "file" reports the archive as:

fastcap-2.0-18Sep92.tgz: gzip compressed data, was "fastcap-2.0-18Sep92.tar", from MS-DOS

where the "from MS-DOS" is probably important.
>Fix:

	Don't know.
