Hi

Just built a simple i386 machine with hardware which is nothing out of
the ordinary. There isn't a load on the box. I'm the only user on my
own network. So, there shouldn't be any problems.

After downloading pkgsrc.tar.gz from...

ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-current/tar_files/pkgsrc.tar.gz

I find that I get the following error message...

pciide0:0:0 lost interrupt
	type: ata tc_bcount:1024 tc_skip: 0
pciide0:0:0: bus-master DMA error: missing interrupt, status=0x20
wd0e: DMA error writing fsbn 7198316 of 7198316-7198317 (wd0 bn
8291996; cn
8226 tn 2 sn 62), retrying wd0: soft error (corrected)

when I do "tar -xzvpf pkgsrc.tar.gz -C /usr"

What happens is that the hard rive locks up solid until I so 'Ctrl-C'
and then after that the error message that you can see above appears
on the screen. If anyone can suggest a way out of this it would help
:)

There's nothing amazing about the hardware. Kind of thing you might
find in a skip outside a large multi-national... 400MHz AMD cpu with
128Mb of RAM and any old PC i386 motherboard.... the output of dmesg
is below....
