It's not those numbers which need writing down, but rather as you alluded
to it is the parameters of the "newfs" command that need writing down!  ;-)

I've even considered syslogging newfs parameters, though syslogd is so
rarely running when newfs is used that maybe just appending them to a
file in /etc (if root is writable) would be better.

When you newfs a huge filesystem these numbers are in some ways as good
as any other form of progress indicator.

However if a proper true percent-done progress bar were displayed then
one wouldn't have to catch the number of cylinder groups before it
scrolled off the top of the screen in order to guess at how many lines
of output to expect before it neared completion....
