Some more followup:
fortune.c uses random(), which works as expected in the test programs I've
written (calling random() 20 times in a row in a for loop) As noted before,
I already tested random(), /dev/random, and /dev/urandom, and all work as
expected. rand() is also fine. I am out of ideas as to why fortune would
thus always give the same fortune; I'll keep looking and see if I spot
anything.
