APM suspends - be they due to batteries running down, the suspend key being
pressed, or an "apm -S" or "apm -z" - cause the machine to hang. apm -S,
for example, emits a message saying the machine will suspend in a moment,
then the machine totally freezes (no console error message appears, even).
