I think the purpose of 1.4? is to let it install only on a -current
version of NetBSD. They are numbered 1.4[A-Z]. AFAIK staroffice will not
work on 1.4 release branch, because it doesn't have emulation of linux
threading. -current has it and they will be in 1.5
