>Description:

when I tried to install a recent snapshot of pre-1.4.1, I ran into the following
trouble. This was the pmax snapshot I downloaded on 7/21/1999.

I entered all the network information in sysinst including
interface
hostname
host ip
gateway ip
name server ip

and when sysinst tried to ping the nameserver, it failed. The strange thing
is that in the status window, it ended up with the name of the server it
was trying to ping (even though I told it an IP addr, not a name).

I can ping the name server from other machines on my net.

I think I had this problem back in 1.3.? days on a sparc as well, but
was too sloppy to write it down and do a send-pr (sorry).

>How-To-Repeat:
try to use sysinst from an internal net where you need a gateway.

>Fix:

I gave sysinst the ip address of a local machine instead of the real name
server. This let it pass the ping test. then I gave sysinst the
ip address of the machine I wanted to ftp binaries from instead of giving a
name.
