>Environment:
System: NetBSD mona 1.3G NetBSD 1.3G (MONA) #2: Thu Aug 13 23:43:47 EST 1998 simonb@mona:/z/src/sys/arch/pmax/compile/MONA pmax

>Description:
Subject pretty much says it all. In the 1.3/pmax release, ar and
ranlib were built out of the binutils-2.8 (I think) release, not
out of the NetBSD source tree.

This pr is in the port-pmax category because I assume it only
	affects some mips based ports.

>How-To-Repeat:
	# make build
	   watch errors

	or

After "make && make install" in /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils:

		mona:~ 83> cp -p /usr/lib/libm.a .
		mona:~ 84> chmod u+w libm.a
		mona:~ 85> ranlib libm.a
ranlib: can't set BFD default target to `mipsel-unknown-netbsd': Invalid bfd target
		mona:~ 86> ar tv libm.a
ar: can't set BFD default target to `mipsel-unknown-netbsd': Invalid bfd target

	None given; get out backup's.
