I can reproduce it, kinda.  My /usr/src is a union mount, so in
/sys/arch/i386/compile:

drwxr-xr-x  32767 root  wheel  6656 Oct 31 18:19 DUH_WWW

I don't have that many subdirectories and files in this compile directory;
it just happens to be a directory in the top layer only.
