>Description:
richthofen.tooluser.com is a 486/100 w/16MB ram. The
motherboard has no built in controllers; I rely on the AHA1542CF for
the floppy. I am using a generic 1.44MB 3.5" floppy.
In attempting to upgrade to netbsd 1.2, I pulled down the
appropriate files, including kcadp12.fs.gz. I gzip -d'd this file,
and dd'd to to /dev/rfd0c using the default blocksize (512). When
I attempt to boot from this floppy, the boot prompt appears and
asks to boot from fd0 /netbsd. Upon hitting return (or letting it
time out and go on its own) it attempts to load the kernel, but only
gets through about three ticks of the spinning cursor before the
machine resets.
I am able to mount the floppy as a filesystem, and have successfully
copied the kernel from it to the root partition of my system disk,
and, in fact, have then booted that kernel. The system comes up
fine, with the exception of not having all the drivers in place.
I have attempted to boot another netbsd machine with this floppy, and
had identical problems, which probably eliminates hardware issues.
(the other machine also relies on an AHA-1542B for its floppy
controller.)
