Actually, nothing was rejected.  All three PRs turned up later.

But leaping to the conclusion that they *had* been rejected, I could think
of no other reasonable reason...

The preface was not included in the PRs that I sent to gnats.  The preface
was to point out that the messages containing it had *not* been sent to
gnats, since gnats didn't seem interested.  Eventually, however, gnats did
get around to the original PRs.
