   Actually, my take on this is to start it from rc.local (like one usually 
   did in SunOS).  This sort of follows how one sets up pcvt options on the 
   i386 port (or, at least, how _I_ set up pcvt options on my i486 :-)  
   Also, it'd be sort of pointless to start it upon existence on a Sun 3 or 
   Sparc with only a serial console...

sunos's /etc/rc.local starts a *hell* of a lot more things than the
netbsd one does.  hmm.  my point was unless people have it started
for them, it's not going to be used -- they won't know it exists.
