>Description:

this has happened to me a few things in X now. sequence follows:

        a) to my shell (tcsh), type 'cmd /path/to' and then hit <tab> to get
        completion.
        b) completion isn't unique, so shell beeps.
        c) beep continues longer than normal,
        d) X exits.
        e) xdm restarts X.
        f) i log in as fast as possible (using F1 for "failsafe").
        g) i echo ^G to turn that damn beep off.
        h) beep goes off and is replaced by scream. :-)

there is no core file. i'm not at all sure what the problem is...

>How-To-Repeat:

it's not a repeatable thing -- my shell beeps at me about every hour or
more, on average, and this has only happened 4 or 5 times in 10 months.
