host - TP 486DX2, with 16mb RAM and GMIO-470 card
printer - Lexmark 4039 10R
from dmesg - lpt0 at isa0 port 0x378-0x37f irq 7
System: NetBSD bunyip 1.0_BETA NetBSD 1.0_BETA (GENERICAHA) #3: Mon Aug 1 16:48:16 PDT 1994 cgd@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERICAHA i386
>Description:
Depending on how a remote Lexmark printer is configured, the PC may RESET(?).
The table below lists the different cases ...
Parallel Protocol/Honor Init
STANDARD/ON - RESET
STANDARD/OFF - RESET
FASTBYTES/ON - cp: /dev/lpt0: Operation not permitted
FASTBYTES/OFF - Prints ok!
I'll call the effect on the pc a reset as the behavour is the same as someone
pressing the reset button on the front.
The problem could be either the OS or the Parallel Printer Card.
>How-To-Repeat:
o configure printer as per above
o # cp file /dev/lpt0
>Fix:
Configure Lexmark printer as `FASTBYTES/OFF'. NB: The default config
is `FASTBYTES/ON'
